International Forums
In an effort to contribute to academic advancement and shared prosperity in Asia, the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies organizes a series of international forums with leading universities across the region. The Institute inaugurated the Beijing Forum with Peking University in 2004, followed by the Shanghai Forum with Fudan University in 2005. Both forums are held annually in China and have become prominent venues for academic dialogue. Since 2015, the Institute has expanded its network by launching regionally tailored forums in partnership with prominent Chinese universities, including the Tianjin Forum, Nanjing Forum, and Shandong Forum, and others through its close partnerships with key universities in China. These forums now serve as leading platforms of academic discourse for the regional and global academic community.
In recognition of the growing importance of South east Asia, the Institute co-hosted the Hanoi Forum with Vietnam University and the Bangkok Forum with Chulalongkorn University in 2018, further broadening the scope of regional collaboration.
Additionally, since launching the first Tokyo Forum with the University of Tokyo in 2019, the forum has evolved into a symbolic platform for Korea-Japan cooperation and on-going dialogue.

Beijing Forum

Chey Institute - Peking University
Under the overarching theme of "Harmony of Civilizations and Shared Prosperity," the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies and Peking University jointly host the Beijing Forum to explore the universal values and potential challenges of Asian civilizations. The forum aims to strengthen mutual trust and cooperation through meaningful academic exchange.
Since its inception in 2004, the Beijing Forum has grown into one of Asia's leading international academic conferences, held annually every November with the participation of over 500 world-renowned scholars. The forum covers a wide range of topics including international relations, politics, socio-culture, humanities, and the environment.

Shanghai Forum

Chey Institute - Fudan University
Since 2005, the Shanghai Forum, co-hosted annually with Fudan University, has served as a global platform for academic discourse, focusing on critical issues related to the economy, finance, energy, and the environment in Asia and beyond, under the overarching theme of "Economic Globalization and Asia's Choice."
At the most recent forum, keynote speakers included James Steinberg, former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State and current Dean of Johns Hopkins SAIS; Cui Tiankai, former Chinese Ambassador to the United States; Takehiko Nakao, former President of the Asian Development Bank and current Chairman of Mizuho; and Pascal Lamy, former Director-General of the WTO.

Tokyo Forum

Chey Institute - University of Tokyo
The Tokyo Forum, co-hosted by the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies and the University of Tokyo, is an international academic conference organized with the aim of builiding a future of co-prosperity, particularly in light of the ongoing complexities of Korea–Japan relations.
Bringing together distinguished scholars from Korea, Japan, the United States, China, and other nations, the Tokyo Forum provides a platform for dialogue on a wide range of global challenges and opportunities facing Northeast Asia and the world. Key topics include international order, scientific and technological innovation, trade, economy, environment, and urban development.
Looking ahead, the Tokyo Forum aspires to evolve into a public diplomacy platform that explores future-oriented paths for cooperation.
Other Forums
Since 2004, the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies has been hosting the International Confucian Forum in collaboration with Renmin University of China. Focusing on Confucianism, the essence of Eastern philosophy, the forum aims to explore ways to overcome the crises and challenges facing Asia-and humanity as a whole-and to contribute to the advancement of human society.
Since 2015, the Chey Institute has also hosted the Nanjing Forum with Nanjing University, the Tianjin Forum with Nankai University, and the Shandong Forum with Shandong University. These global forums aim to promote regional cooperation and to share wisdom that enables flexible responses to the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing era.
